It's official- I've accepted the position as part of the 2006 Memphis Teach For America corps!
I'll be headed out of the Kansas City area in the first week of June, spend a week of "Induction" in Memphis (interview for the actual schools, find housing, etc) then head to Atlanta for TFA's Teacher Training Institute, then arrive back in Memphis to settle in and prepare for school to start August 14. Then, voila, I'll have my very own classroom in the Memphis City Schools district. Any and all are more than welcome to come visit me, though I'm expecting that the first semester at least of teaching will incredibly consuming as I figure out what I'm doing. ;)
In realted news, this girl will be happily ambling down the hill- a KU graduation tradition- on May 21 to recieve my degrees in political science and history. Inivitions are headed out shortly, and everyone is invited to the hot and sticky ceremony beginning at 2:30 and/or to my reception hosted later that evening by the generous longtime-friend-of-the-Marshes Hetrick clan at their abode in Lawrence. Hope to see you there!
